“Pepper”

Domestic Short Hair 5 month old female kitten

This kitten was brought to our facility after she came running into the house crying and walking abnormally. The owner was not sure what kind of trauma may have occurred to her.

The doctor found that Pepper was not using her rear legs and she could not move her tail. At this point, the doctor was not sure if Pepper was going to pull through, but her owner did not give up on her!

She was very scared and needed gas anesthesia for X-Rays and bloodwork to be done. Her X-Rays did not show any spinal fractures. * Her Cell Blood Count, Blood Chemistries and Blood Gases were all done in house in a matter of minutes. They were all normal.

She was going to be treated for spinal inflammation so an IV was started. She was treated with a balanced electrolyte solution and corticosteroids. She was treated for pain with IV opiods. She was also given a diuretic to decrease any brain swelling, since it was highly suspected Pepper may have been hit by a car.

5 hours from when she was brought into the clinic, she regained function of her back legs and her tail! Her prognosis was good and her owner was very excited with this.

She was discharged the next day with oral pain medication and antibiotics. She was thankful to be going home with mom!
