Policies and Procedures

VES Policies & Procedures
When you visit VES with your pet, an examination and emergency fee will be charged for the examination performed by the doctor and staff.
  1. An examination and consultation fee is charged for the examination performed by the doctor and staff.
  2. You will be given a written estimate of the treatment plan and anticipated medical fees associated with treating your pet.
  3. An itemized receipt of medical fees charged for hospitalization care, medications, anesthetics, surgery, radiographs, and laboratory tests will be given to you upon release of your pet.
  4. VES will provide you with a detailed receipt of all medical fees and services and a copy of your pets record will be sent to your referring veterinary hospital.
Financial Services Available
We currently accept cash, checks, VISA, MasterCard, Discover, Care Credit and ATM Debit cards. We do not extend lines of credit to clients that are unable to pay for services. All payments for services are due at the time services are rendered or at discharge. When a client comes in, the doctor on duty will provide you with an estimate of the anticipated services to be performed. Once you have agreed to this estimate, a deposit will be taken and will equal at least the low end of the estimate. When the patient is discharged, the remaining balance is due in full.
Dispensing of Medication
We can not dispense medication to clients without a Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR). If you run out of medication and need a refill, we will be happy to see you on an emergency basis and refill the prescription. It will be up to our doctor's discretion to determine if the medication is currently warranted.
Blood Components
We do carry a supply of Canine Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP), Canine Platelet Concentrate, Feline FFP (both "A" and "B" blood types), Canine Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBC) and Oxyglobin.
ICU Chamber/Oxygen
We have one of the few ICU units in the Central Valley. This chamber allows us to provide stress-free oxygen supple-mentation to our critical patients. We also have the ability to supply nasal, mask and hood oxygen.
Endoscopy
We have an 8.5 mm X 150 cm flexible Storz endoscope with video capabilities. This scope is too large for bronchoscopy, but is routinely used for retrieval of foreign bodies in the stomach, esophagus and proximal duodenum. It can also be used for obtaining samples from the above as well as other areas of the bowel.
Ultrasound
We have an Acuson 128XP ultrasound machine with several different multi-hertz transducers (both linear and sector). Dr. Lisa Ferretti is in our facility on most Thursdays for referrals. She primarily does abdominal ultrasounds and is not currently set up to do cardiac ultrasounds. On an emergency basis, any of our doctors can use the ultrasound to evaluate the abdomen or chest for masses and/or fluid.
We thank you for taking the time to read through this update and encourage you to call us with any other questions or concerns you might have now or in the future.
Aftercare
The goal of VES is to efficiently treat any emergency or critical care patient in order to stabilize it adequately for safe transfer back to your regular veterinarian. The staff doctors will consult with your veterinarian to ensure proper aftercare. Please follow all instructions regarding your pet. If you have any questions following the discharge of your pet please phone VES.
