Dr. Filipowicz was born and raised in Severna Park, outside Annapolis, Maryland.  He received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. After trading gold, silver, and oil options for several years in New York, he worked several veterinary-related jobs in Cambridge, MA in preparation for veterinary school.  He was accepted out- of-state to UC Davis, where he completed his DVM degree.  Immediately after veterinary school, he moved back to the east coast for a rotating internship in medicine and surgery at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. He stayed at Virginia where he completed a residency in small animal surgery and received his M.A. in veterinary sciences. Dean entered the American College of Veterinary Surgeons as a diplomate in 2009.

Dr. Filipowicz is published in several veterinary journals and has co-authored book chapters. His research primarily investigates a novel type of orthopedic fixation. Dean’s special interests include fracture management, trauma, skin and reconstructive surgery, and minimally invasive surgery.   When not at work, Dean can be found enjoying all outdoor physical activities.
