OUR SERVICES

We’re here when you need us…

Our facility is designed, equipped and maintained to support a specialized staff to ensure Veterinary Emergency Service provides the best possible emergency and extended critical care for small animal pets.

Emergency Physical Examination
The initial examination will allow the doctor to evaluate your pet’s condition and decide on the best treatment plan  for your pet.

Hospitalization Care
Clean and comfortable hospitalization facilities are provided for your pet. All treatments, monitoring and status reevaluations are supervised by the attending doctor. Adjustment in diagnostics and/or treatments can be made promptly as needed.

Medications

Medications are used to alleviate pain, reduce anxiety or fear, treat or prevent infections, control shock and treat heart, kidney, liver or respiratory failure. Medications for treatment will be administered in the most suitable way for your pet: intramuscular, intravenous, subcutaneous, intraosseous, oral or topical. Oxygen and intravenous fluid therapy are often administered.

Blood and Blood Products

Severe anemia may accompany trauma, poisoning, infections or other conditions seen in pets presented to the emergency hospital. We can treat these conditions with stored blood, plasma and advanced blood substitutes.

Pain Management

Various types of anesthetics are available to treat ill or injured pets, such as local anesthesia, short acting intravenous anesthesia or gas anesthesia. Monitoring equipment is always used during any anesthetic procedure so that the doctor and staff can make certain your pet remains as stable as possible.

Surgery

A wide range of emergency surgical procedures can be performed by the doctor with assistance from the staff, such as repair of traumatic wounds to skin, muscle, ligaments and tendons, internal organs, and removal of foreign bodies (bones, toys, articles of clothing, string, needles, etc.) Caesarean sections and correction of bloat in large dogs are frequently encountered and can be treated surgically.

Imaging and Endoscopy

Digital radiography and ultrasound is available at VES to efficiently and effectively diagnose your pet. Digital Radiographs can quickly detect problems such as fractures, pneumonia, collapsed lung lobes and intestinal foreign bodies.  Ultrasound may be useful for diagnosis of liver, kidney, pancreatic, prostatic, bladder or heart conditions. The endoscope may be utilized for examinations of the nose, throat, respiratory and digestive tracts. All of our radiographs are reviewed by a board certified radiologist and provided to you on a disk.

Laboratory Tests
We have a very comprehensive on-site laboratory. Our lab equipment enables doctors and staff to promptly evaluate blood, stool and urine samples. These tests can be utilized to assist in the diagnosis of your pet’s condition as well as to monitor progress of treatment.

Antivenin

Rattlesnake bites are a common emergency in the spring and summer months. We are able to treat these bites with Antivenin which helps to neutralize the toxic effects of the venom and reduce the tissue damage in the areas surrounding the bite.
